Health requirements

As of September 2022, there is no longer a requirement to fill in a health control form to travel to Spain or to present a QR code when boarding or at the arrival airport. However, there are still some health requirements to be aware of when travelling to Barcelona.

Firstly, it is recommended that you are up to date with all vaccinations advised by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is also important to note that the U.S. Medicare/Medicaid does not apply overseas, and most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance. Therefore, it is recommended that you have supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation.

In terms of specific requirements for entry, as of September 2022, all travellers, regardless of vaccination status, can cruise from the U.S. as long as they meet testing requirements. For all sailings 9 nights or shorter, no pre-boarding testing is required. For all sailings 10 nights or longer, guests aged 12 and up must present a negative COVID-19 test result from either an antigen test taken within 1 day prior to sailing or a negative PCR test taken within 3 days prior to sailing. Test results from any commercially available Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), including self-tests, will be accepted. Tests do not need to be supervised or proctored, and results may be presented as a printout, screenshot, photo of the test result, or the actual test. Antibody tests are not accepted.

If you have recently recovered from COVID-19, you may present a Certificate of Recovery and proof of a positive PCR or Antigen test result taken between 11 and less than 180 days prior to the sail date in order to board and be exempt from testing. The Certificate of Recovery can be presented as an NHS COVID Pass, EU Certificate of Recovery, or as a letter from a healthcare provider.

It is worth noting that some ports of call do not accept a Certificate of Recovery for the purposes of disembarking. Additionally, while vaccinations are not required, they are highly recommended. If you are vaccinated, you should carry your vaccination documentation with you at all times while in port, in case local authorities or businesses request it to help facilitate entry and/or experiences.

By Train

Barcelona is connected to the rest of Spain and Europe by an extensive rail network. High-speed trains, such as the AVE, connect Barcelona with Madrid, Seville, and other major Spanish cities. There are also international connections to France and Portugal.

Buses are a cheap and convenient way to get to Barcelona from other parts of Spain and Europe. Estació del Nord, the city's main bus station, is located in the Eixample district, about 2km north of the city centre. Buses arrive and depart from here to destinations all over Spain and Europe.
