If you're looking for a spooky way to spend your fall evenings in Madison, look no further than a haunted history tour of downtown. As one of the oldest cities in Wisconsin, Madison has its fair share of ghostly tales and haunted locales, and a guided tour will take you through some of the most eerie spots in town.

One popular option is the Ghosts of Capitol Square tour, which explores the area around the Wisconsin State Capitol building. The tour includes stops at landmarks like the Orpheum Theater, the Capitol Theater, and the Old Executive Mansion, all of which are said to be haunted by spirits from Madison's past. Your guide will regale you with stories of murder, tragedy, and mystery as you wander the alleys and sidewalks of downtown.

Another great option is the Grave Robber tour, which takes you to the historic Forest Hill Cemetery on the outskirts of the city. This tour focuses on the more macabre side of local history and includes stories of grave robbers, body snatchers, and other creepy characters of the past. You'll wander among the graves and learn about some of the famous (and infamous) people who are buried there.

Of course, there are plenty of other haunted sites in Madison that you can explore on your own. For example, the historic mansion known as the "Pabst Mansion" is said to be haunted by the ghost of a former owner, and the Majestic Theater is rumored to have its own resident spirits as well. You can also visit the Wisconsin Historical Society's headquarters, which is housed in a building that dates back to the 1890s and has its own spooky stories to tell.

Whether you're a skeptic or a true believer in the paranormal, a haunted history tour of downtown Madison is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit. So book your tickets, grab a flashlight, and get ready to explore the spooky side of this historic city.
