To get to the Marina, simply follow the main road east from the shopping district until you reach the water. The ferry terminal building will be on your right.

Fly with Charizard

To travel back to Melemele Island, you can use the ferry or fly with Charizard. The ferry is the quicker option, but flying with Charizard is more exciting.

To use the ferry, go to the Ferry Terminal in the west of Heahea City, near where Kukui and Lillie arrived. This will take you to the Marina at Hau'oli City.

To fly with Charizard, you need to complete the second trial, which is right after the battle royal. After completing the second trial, you can ride Charizard to fly to Melemele Island.

Another way to get to Melemele Island is by using Mantine Surf from Heahea Beach, which will take you to Big Wave Beach. From there, you can head to Hau'oli City and then to Melemele Island.

To get back to Melemele Island, you can take the ferry from the Ferry Terminal in Heahea City. This terminal is located in the far west of the city, near where Kukui and Lillie arrived. The ferry will take you to the Marina at Hau'oli City.

Riding Mantine to Big Wave Beach is the more exciting option. To do this, you must first complete your first Grand Trial on the island. Once you've done that, head to Big Wave Beach, where you'll find a girl in a yellow swimsuit who will tell you about Mantine Surfing.

Mantine Surf is a minigame in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. It is a specific type of Poké Ride where the player rides on the back of a Mantine to surf on the ocean waves, performing moves to earn points. While Mantine moves forward automatically, the player can move it left or right by sliding the Circle Pad in the desired direction. You can also leap into the air by sliding the Circle Pad right while riding a wave, with the height and length of your jump depending on Mantine's speed.

When you arrive at Big Wave Beach, head to the southernmost part of the beach, where you'll find Sandy Cave. Here, you can summon Lapras from the water's edge and paddle northeast to reach an island in the middle of the cave. On this island, you'll find a Big Pearl. Unfortunately, you can't go any further than this point in the cave.

To continue on your journey, exit the cave and leave Big Wave Beach from the east. Then, travel south through Route 2 to reach Hau'oli City.

Walk through Route 2 to Hau'oli City

To get back to Melemele Island, you first need to travel to Hauoli City. Here is a detailed walkthrough of the route:

Walkthrough of Route 2 to Hauoli City

Route 2 connects Hauoli City and Route 3. On this route, you can find Hauoli Cemetery, Big Wave Beach, Verdant Cavern, and Berry Fields. As you enter Route 2, a man on the left will tell you about rustling patches in the tall grass, indicating the presence of feisty Pokémon. You can check out the Pokémon in the grass before crossing paths with the trainer to the right.

At the top of the path, you will find that it splits into three. The left path is blocked by rocks and can only be accessed once you get Tauros as a Poké Ride. The right path behind the patch of tall grass leads to Hauoli Cemetery. If you continue north on Route 2, you will fight another trainer.

The path will split again. To the left is a seaside motel and Big Wave Beach. Up ahead, you will find Berry Fields, a Pokémon Center, and the entrance to Verdant Cavern. Head to the small house on the right, where you will find two Totem Stickers.

Continue following the dirt path to the right until you reach some tall grass. Walk through it and you will find a Heal Ball. Jump down onto the path and continue right to the Hauoli Cemetery, where you can fight trainers, catch Ghost-type Pokémon, and find some items.

Once back on Route 2, head north again and go left to explore Big Wave Beach. On your way, the owner of the seaside motel will show you the way. When you return, run behind the truck in front of the motel to pick up a Super Potion. Enter the motel room and talk to the gentlemen sitting at the table to receive two Nest Balls.

Return to the main path of Route 2 and keep walking north. You will see two strange individuals you met at Iki Town. Continue into the tall grass, which will split into two paths. Take the left side, following the fence, and take another left to find a Revive. Hop down from the ledge to challenge the trainer.

Head back to the path and take the right side, where you will meet Hau in front of the Pokémon Center. He will give you three Revives, and you will try your first Roto Loto. The woman near the cafe in the blue dress and hat will want to see a Crawbrawler. Rest your Pokémon and grab any items you need before heading to your first trial.

Leave the Pokémon Center and head to the red flag on your map. This is Verdant Cavern, the location of Captain Ilima's trial.
