In Pokémon Sun and Moon, players can travel between islands by using the Poké Ride feature, which replaces HMs as the primary way of progressing through the Alola region. After defeating Hala at the Melemele Island grand trial, players will unlock the Tauros Charge and gain access to Poké Ride. This feature allows players to call upon Ride Pokémon that aid in transportation, such as the Lapras Paddle for riding on water or the Charizard Glide for flying to previously visited areas. Players can also use the boat to travel between islands, or surf if they prefer a shorter route.

What You'll Learn
Use the boat
To travel between islands in Pokemon Sun and Moon, you can use the boat. To do this, go to the Melemele Ferry Terminal in Hau'oli City's Marina, and you will be able to travel to islands you have already visited.
You can also travel back to previous islands immediately by going to the ferry where you landed and entering the building.
If you have defeated the first island's Kahuna, you will have unlocked your first Poke Ride Pokemon, Tauros, which can help you get around faster.
However, to fly and fast travel to places you have been before, you will need to unlock the Poke Ride Charizard. After completing Fire Captain Kiawe's trial on top of the volcano, you will be able to call on Charizard and fly to any location on the world map with a feather symbol on it.

Wait for Kiawe's Trial
To travel between islands in Pokemon Sun and Moon, you can go to the ferry terminal in Hau'oli City's Marina and travel to islands you've already visited. Alternatively, after the second trial, you can ride Charizard to fly between islands.
Now, here is some detailed information about Kiawe's Trial:
Kiawe is the Trial Captain of Akala Island's Wela Volcano Park, specialising in Fire-type Pokemon. In his trial, Kiawe asks the player to observe and identify the differences between two dances performed by two Marowak. The trial consists of three levels of increasing difficulty. In the first level, the Marowak will strike a different pose in the second dance, and if you give the correct answer, one of the Marowak will battle you. In the second level, a Hiker photo bombs the second pose, and if you tell Kiawe that the Hiker is the difference, the Hiker will battle you. In the third level, a Totem Salazzle appears in the middle of the pose, and regardless of your answer to what the difference is, Kiawe will yell "Salazzle, Attack!" and you will face the Totem Pokemon.
After completing the trial, you will be rewarded with the Charizard Ride Pager, allowing you to fly between islands.

Ride Tauros
Riding a Tauros allows you to move quickly on land and smash through large boulders. This can be especially useful when navigating through the various islands of the Alola region. In the Pokémon animated series, a Tauros taxi service is depicted, where a driver uses three Ride Tauros to pull his cart.
It's worth noting that the design of the Riding Wear, the special suit worn while riding a Ride Pokémon, differs between Sun and Moon, as well as their respective Ultra versions. In Sun and Moon, the headgear resembles Hawlucha, while in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, it's modelled after Shiny Hawlucha.
The concept of riding Tauros as a means of transportation adds to the unique features of the Alola region and enhances the gameplay experience by providing a fun and efficient way to explore the islands.
