U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents start by creating an account at Trusted Traveler Programs System (TTP). Citizens of the other eligible countries should review their country-specific requirements.

Global Entry Benefits

Global Entry members enjoy shorter wait times and the benefits of TSA pre-check eligibility. Members enter the United States by accessing the Global Entry processing technology at selected airports. At airports, program members proceed to the Global Entry lanes where processing technology will be used to expedite the members by capturing a photo to verify their membership.

Updating Your Account

If you renew your passport, your Global Entry account won’t automatically update itself. However, the process for updating your account is quite simple and can be done online. Simply go to the Global Entry Online Enrollment System, log into your account, and make the necessary changes to reflect the status of your new passport.

Global Entry Mobile App: validate arrival into the US on iOS or Android

The Global Entry Mobile App is a free application that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. It is currently available for eligible travellers to use upon arrival at Global Entry-approved sites.

The app allows active Global Entry members to report their arrival at any supported airport instead of using a stationary Global Entry portal. To do this, members must choose their arrival airport from a list of supported airports and submit a photo of themselves to CBP for verification. This process must be completed while the member is physically located within their arrival terminal. Once the submission is successful, the member will receive a receipt, which must be presented to a Global Entry officer upon arrival. The member should also be prepared to offer further travel documentation if requested.

The use of the Global Entry Mobile App streamlines the entry process into the United States by reducing passport control inspection time and overall wait time. It is important to note that the app requires a valid Trusted Traveler Membership, and it does not enable enrolment for the Global Entry program.

TSA Pre-Check: eligibility for expedited airport screening

TSA PreCheck® is an expedited screening program that makes risk assessments about passengers prior to their arrival at the airport. It is a component of the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) intelligence-driven, risk-based security approach.

Eligibility

U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents can apply for TSA PreCheck® for a fee of $85, which is valid for five years.

Eligible TSA PreCheck® travelers include:

• U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents enrolled in TSA PreCheck®.
• Members of Global Entry.
• U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who are members of SENTRI.
• U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and Canadian citizens who are members of NEXUS.
• Members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including the National Guard and reserves, as well as government employees from select agencies.
• Cadets and midshipmen of the U.S. Military Academy, Naval Academy, Coast Guard Academy, Air Force Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy.
• Passengers 12 and younger traveling with an eligible passenger.
• Passengers selected using existing Secure Flight system requirements while traveling on participating airlines.

Application Process

The fastest and easiest way to enroll in TSA PreCheck® is to start the application online. The cost of TSA PreCheck® is $78 for 5 years. The cost is $58.75 online and $66.75 in person.

To enroll in TSA PreCheck®, follow these steps:

• Select an enrollment provider with enrollment locations near you. Submit your TSA PreCheck® application online.
• Visit an enrollment location to complete enrollment in 10 minutes. This includes fingerprinting, document and photo capture, and payment.
• Get your Known Traveler Number (KTN) once approved, add it to your airline reservations, and begin saving time in screening.

Global Entry Card: used for lawful US entry at land and sea ports

The Global Entry program is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection service that allows pre-approved, low-risk travellers to receive expedited clearance upon arrival into the United States. This clearance can be obtained through automatic kiosks at select airports and via the Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection (SENTRI) and NEXUS travel lanes by land and sea.

Global Entry cards are issued to Global Entry members who are U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, and Mexican nationals. The cards have radio frequency identification (RFID) chips, which enable their use at SENTRI and NEXUS travel lanes when entering the United States at land borders.

To use the Global Entry card at a land or sea port of entry, cardholders must follow all program rules for SENTRI and NEXUS. The card is not valid for entry into Canada via the NEXUS lanes and kiosks. It is also not accepted at Global Entry kiosks, which require passports or U.S. lawful permanent resident cards.

To activate a Global Entry card, log into your Trusted Traveler Program (TPP) account. After logging in, click on the "Activate Membership Card" button under the "Program Membership(s)" section.

Global Entry Renewal: renew membership up to 24 months after expiry

How to Renew Your Global Entry Membership:

You can renew your Global Entry membership up to a year before it expires. If you submit your renewal application before your membership expires, you can continue to use Global Entry for up to 24 months after your expiration date. Here are the steps to renew your membership:

• Log into your Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) account at ttp.dhs.gov.
• Select "Renew" under the Global Entry program on your dashboard.
• Answer the questions and fill out your payment information.
• Submit your application.
• If you are required to schedule an interview with CBP, do so. (Interviews are not always required for renewals.)
• Once you are fully approved, your new Global Entry card will be mailed to your address.

Updating Your Passport Information:

If you need to update your passport information, you can do so through your TTP account by clicking on "Update Documents." However, if your new passport involves a name change, you must visit a Global Entry enrollment centre to update your information. You will also be responsible for a $25 fee for a new Global Entry card.
