Exploring the great outdoors with your dogs can be a wonderful bonding experience, and Big Basin Redwoods State Park is the perfect place to do it. A trip to this stunning, majestic park is sure to leave you and your pets feeling invigorated and refreshed. Here's how to get the most out of your visit:

First and foremost, be prepared. Pack plenty of water, food, and snacks for both you and your dogs. It's also a good idea to bring along a first aid kit and any medications your pets may need. If you plan on camping, make sure your dogs are comfortable sleeping in a tent or RV.

Once you arrive at Big Basin, take some time to explore the redwoods. These towering trees reach heights of up to 350 feet, and some of them are more than 2,000 years old. The park has plenty of hiking trails that wind through the redwoods, so you and your dogs can take in the beauty of the forest together.

One of the most popular trails in the park is the 11-mile Skyline-to-the-Sea trail. While this trail is too long for most dogs to complete in one day, you can hike a section of it and still see some of the park's highlights. Another popular destination is the Berry Creek Falls Trail. This 9-mile round-trip hike takes you past multiple waterfalls and through a lush forest. While the trail is challenging in places and may not be suitable for all dogs, it's well worth the effort.

If you're looking for something a bit easier, the park also has shorter trails that are perfect for a relaxing stroll. The Redwood Loop Trail is a gentle half-mile loop that takes you past some of the park's largest trees. The Shadowbrook Trail is another easy option that takes you through a scenic redwood grove.

Finally, be sure to follow the park's rules for dogs. Dogs are allowed on most trails in the park but must be on a leash at all times. They are not allowed in park buildings or on backcountry trails. Please clean up after your pets and be respectful of other visitors to the park.

With its stunning redwoods and varied landscape, Big Basin Redwoods State Park is the perfect destination for a trip with your dogs. Whether you're looking for a challenging hike or a gentle stroll, you're sure to find something to delight both you and your furry friends.
