Source: chicago.suntimes.com

Fall is a special time of year in Chicago. Though the weather can be unpredictable, the city comes alive with vibrant colors, unique events, and seasonal delights. One of the best places to enjoy all that autumn in Chicago has to offer is the Art Institute, which marks the season with a selection of special exhibits that capture the spirit of the changing weather. Here are just a few highlights of what you can expect at the Art Institute's fall exhibits.

First up is "Harold Mendez: Let us gather in a flourishing way." This exhibit features the work of a young Chicago-based artist whose installations examine contemporary issues of race, labor, and political power, often through the lens of his own personal history. Mendez works in a variety of media, including sculpture, photography, collage, and painting, using bold colors and textures to create complex, layered images that challenge the viewer's assumptions. His work is always thought-provoking, and this exhibit promises to be no exception.

Another exhibit of note is "Bauhaus Chicago: Design in the City." This collection of works celebrates the legacy of the famed Bauhaus design school, which was founded in Germany in 1919 and had a significant impact on the development of art and architecture throughout the world. Many of the school's alumni, including László Moholy-Nagy and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, came to Chicago to teach and work, and this exhibit explores the connections between their work and the city's urban landscape. Whether you're a design aficionado or simply appreciate the beauty of well-crafted objects, this is a must-see exhibit.

Finally, don't miss "The People Shall Govern! Medu Art Ensemble and the Anti-Apartheid Poster," which features a stunning collection of posters created by South African artists during the apartheid era. These posters were often used to promote awareness of political issues, such as the struggle for human rights and the fight against racial discrimination. They are powerful reminders of the important role that art can play in political activism, and they offer a unique window into a significant chapter of South African history.

Of course, these exhibits are just a taste of what the Art Institute has to offer this fall. Whether you're interested in contemporary art, design history, or social justice, you'll find something to inspire you at this iconic Chicago institution. So why not take an afternoon or evening to explore the exhibits, and see what you discover? You might just fall in love with the Art Institute all over again.
