If you're in the upstate New York area, there's one attraction that shouldn't be missed: Six Flags Great Escape amusement park in Glens Falls. This park has something for everyone, from thrill-seekers to families with young children. I recently had the opportunity to visit the park and was blown away by the wide variety of attractions and experiences available.

One of the first things to note is the park's location. It's situated in a beautiful area, surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains and close to Lake George. This makes for a stunning backdrop to all the rides and attractions. Additionally, the park is open from May to October, so there's plenty of time to visit during the warm months.

Once inside the park, it's easy to get swept up in the excitement of all the rides. One of the most popular is the Comet, a classic wooden roller coaster that's been around since 1948. It's a bit rough, but it's a must-ride for coaster enthusiasts. Another thrilling crowd-pleaser is the Sasquatch, a giant swing that reaches heights of 190 feet. For those looking for a more laid-back experience, the park also has a variety of gentle rides, including a Ferris wheel and a train ride that takes you around the park.

One thing that sets Six Flags Great Escape apart from other amusement parks is its water park, Splashwater Kingdom. If you're visiting during the summer months, be sure to pack your swimsuit so you can cool off on one of the many water slides, in the wave pool, or on the lazy river. You can easily spend an entire day exploring this area alone.

If you're traveling with kids, the park has plenty of options for them as well. There's a dedicated area called Timbertown where children can test their skills on mini-rides, climb on a playground, and meet some of their favorite Looney Tunes characters. Additionally, the park offers several shows throughout the day, including magic shows, animal shows, and character meet-and-greets.

Another huge draw of the park is the food. There are numerous dining options, from classic amusement park fare like hot dogs and cotton candy, to unique options like loaded tater tots and specialty burgers. There's even a beer garden for those over 21 looking to unwind with a cold drink.

Overall, my experience at Six Flags Great Escape was fantastic. The park offers a little something for everyone, from heart-stopping roller coasters to lazy river floats. If you're in the area, don't miss out on the chance to visit this beloved attraction.

Quick tips:

  • Arrive early to beat the crowds and hit the most popular rides before the lines get too long.
  • If you're visiting during peak season, consider purchasing a Flash Pass to skip the lines.
  • Bring sunscreen, as many of the lines are outside and there's a lot of walking around in the sun.
  • There are several hotels in the area that offer packages that include park admission. Check out the park's website for more information.
  • If you're staying for multiple days, consider upgrading to a season pass. It'll pay for itself in just a few visits.
  • Don't forget your swimsuit if you plan on visiting Splashwater Kingdom. It's a separate admission from the main park, but well worth it.

The Hyde Collection Art Museum of Glens Falls is a must-visit destination in the Adirondack region of upstate New York. The museum, housed in a historic mansion, showcases an impressive collection of art from the 15th to the 20th century. As a traveler, if you are looking for an enriching and educational experience, visiting the Hyde Collection is well worth a stop.

The Hyde Collection is conveniently located in Glens Falls, a small town in the Adirondack region, just a short drive from other nearby attractions such as Lake George and Saratoga Springs. It is open year-round, Tuesday through Saturday, with extended hours on Thursdays. Admission fees for adults are $12, while children under the age of 12 can enter for free. It is a perfect destination for families, couples, or solo travelers who want to immerse themselves in art and culture.

What sets the Hyde Collection apart from other museums is the story behind it. Charlotte Pruyn Hyde, the wealthy widow of a Glens Falls lumber baron, established the museum in the 1950s. She filled her mansion with some of the most significant works of art in the world, such as paintings by Rembrandt, El Greco, and Degas. Her collection was eventually gifted to the public, and it now serves as a cultural hub in the region, attracting visitors from all over the world.

As you step into the Hyde Collection, the ambiance of the historic mansion takes you back in time. The architectural features of the house, such as antique furniture, elaborate wall coverings, and stunning chandeliers, illustrate the grandeur that Charlotte Pruyn Hyde lived in. Apart from the impressive art collections, the Hyde Collection also offers visitors the opportunity to discover a myriad of creative workshops and special programs. These programs include family events, adult art workshops, and curator-led tours, which give visitors a deeper understanding of the collections' history and significance.

One of my favorite experiences at the Hyde Collection was exploring the serene Adirondack garden that surrounds the historic mansion. The garden, spread over 3 acres, is a harmonious space featuring labyrinth-like paths winding through the trees, a fish pond, sculptures, and flower beds. The garden is open year-round and is a perfect spot for visitors to relax and appreciate the natural beauty of the region.

In conclusion, the Hyde Collection Art Museum of Glens Falls is an all-encompassing destination that engages visitors of all ages with its immersive history, culture, and art. Glens Falls is a hidden gem with so much to offer! During my visit, one of the highlights was exploring the beautiful parks in the area. Crandall Park, in particular, stood out to me with its stunning lake, walking trails, and picnic areas. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Another must-visit spot in Glens Falls is The Shirt Factory. This unique arts and crafts center is home to numerous local artisans and offers a wide range of handmade goods. I had so much fun browsing the different shops and picking up some one-of-a-kind souvenirs. Glens Falls exceeded my expectations and I can't wait to visit again!
