Yin-Yang Sea

Address224, Taiwan, New Taipei City, Ruifang District, 濓新里

The Yin-Yang Sea, also known as the Bitou Cape, gets its name from the changing hues of the water that resemble the traditional Chinese yin-yang symbol. As the waves crash against the rocky coastline, a mesmerizing pattern emerges. One part of the sea appears deep blue, while the other is a striking shade of golden yellow. This distinct separation of colors creates a visually stunning contrast that is truly a sight to behold.

The reason behind this captivating natural phenomenon lies in the deposition of a large amount of iron pyrite into the water. Iron pyrite is a naturally occurring mineral that contains a high concentration of iron sulfide. When it comes into contact with the air and water, the mineral undergoes a chemical reaction, resulting in the yellow coloration of the sea. On the other hand, the blue color is due to the reflection of the sky against the peaceful areas of the sea.

The Yin-Yang Sea is best enjoyed from a viewpoint that overlooks the coastline. Visitors can take a leisurely hike along the scenic trails or opt for a more adventurous journey by renting a bicycle. Along the way, they will be able to enjoy panoramic ocean views and witness the magical transformation of the colors as they approach the sea.

While Jiufen is famous for its old streets, tea houses, and lantern-lit alleys, the Yin-Yang Sea is undoubtedly one of the town's most enchanting natural wonders. It serves as a reminder of the powerful forces of nature and the beauty that can be found in even the most unexpected places.

When visiting Jiufen, make sure to include the Yin-Yang Sea on your itinerary. It is a place that will leave you in awe of the wonders of nature and provide a unique opportunity to witness the yin-yang symbol come to life. Whether you are a nature lover, a photographer, or simply seeking a tranquil spot to relax, the Yin-Yang Sea in Jiufen is sure to leave a lasting impression.
