The Juniata River is a popular destination for water recreation and offers miles of pristine waters to explore. Here are some tips for planning your kayaking or canoeing trip on the Juniata River.

The first step is to choose the right type of kayak or canoe for your needs. Kayaks are typically more maneuverable and faster than canoes, but canoes are generally more stable and provide more space for gear. Depending on your preferences and experience level, you may want to rent a kayak or canoe from a local outfitter or bring your own.

Next, you'll want to plan your route down the river. The Juniata River is a long river, so you'll want to choose a section that fits your skill level and time constraints. Some popular sections include the Port Royal to Mifflintown stretch, which is around 7 miles long and features gentle rapids and scenic views. Another great option is the Newport to Miller's Bottom section, which is around 9 miles long and has more challenging rapids for experienced kayakers and canoers.

Make sure to check the weather forecast and river conditions before setting out on your trip. Finally, don't forget to take in the natural beauty along the way. The Juniata River offers stunning views of forests, hills, and wildlife, and makes for a truly unforgettable experience.
