Go crabbing at Nehalem Bay

Go
Source: www.youtube.com

If you're looking for a unique outdoor experience in Oregon, go crabbing at Nehalem Bay. This scenic spot is perfect for catching delicious Dungeness crab while enjoying the beautiful Pacific coastline.

To get started, you'll need a few things: a valid Oregon shellfish license, a crab trap, and bait (chicken or fish works well). You can either purchase or rent a crab trap from local sporting goods stores in the area.

Once you have your gear, head out to Nehalem Bay and find a good spot to set your trap. Look for areas with rocky walls or deep channels, as these are ideal habitats for crabs. Make sure to cast your trap out far enough from shore to avoid shallow waters.

Once your trap is set, wait patiently for the crabs to come. You can check your trap periodically to see if you've caught anything, but it's important to be patient and give the crabs time to find the bait.

When you do catch some crabs, it's important to follow proper handling and cooking procedures. Use gloves to handle the crabs, and make sure to measure them to ensure they meet the minimum legal size requirement (5.75 inches across the back). Then, place them in a cooler or bucket of ice until you're ready to cook them.

There are many ways to prepare Dungeness crab, but a classic method is to boil them in a large pot of salted water. Add some lemon or Old Bay seasoning for extra flavor. Once cooked, simply crack the shells open and enjoy the sweet, succulent meat inside.

Overall, crabbing at Nehalem Bay is a fun and rewarding experience for seafood lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Just remember to follow all fishing regulations and take care to properly handle and cook your catch.
