The best way to experience Laguna de Manialtepec is by taking a guided tour. Starting early in the afternoon, the tour takes you through the lagoon, where you will see a variety of wildlife such as birds, iguanas, and even some crocodiles. As the sun begins to set, you will witness a breathtaking bioluminescence phenomenon caused by glowing microorganisms in the water. It's like swimming in a dream as the water sparkles all around you - an experience that will leave you in awe.

To prepare for the tour, there are a few things you should know. First, you must bring a change of clothes and a towel. Second, bug spray is a must as the lagoon is brimming with insects. Third, it's recommended that you bring a waterproof camera to capture the glowing water.

Aside from the lagoon tour, there are several other activities to do in Puerto Escondido, including surfing lessons, fishing trips, and hiking. You can also visit the mercados, or local markets, to try traditional Mexican dishes such as tamales and mole. If you're looking for a more relaxed experience, you can spend the day at one of the many beaches near the lagoon, like Playa Carrizalillo.

If you're planning a trip, the best time to visit the Laguna de Manialtepec is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. During this period, the water is clear, and the bioluminescence is more visible. However, tourists can visit the lagoon all year-round.

Aside from its natural wonders, the Laguna de Manialtepec also offers a fascinating history. As the story goes, the lagoon was once known as "the hidden port" since it was a refuge for pirates who would dock their ships and hide their treasures. Today, the lagoon is a national park and protected area.

In conclusion, visiting Laguna de Manialtepec of Puerto Escondido is an experience that you don't want to miss. It offers a chance to see natural wonders, try traditional Mexican food, and learn about the area's fascinating history. With so much to do and see, it's no wonder why Puerto Escondido is a destination that travelers from all over the world flock to. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the elusive white-faced monkey that lives in the area.

In addition to the stunning waterfall, there are several hiking trails and picnic areas in the surrounding jungle. You can spend the day hiking through the dense vegetation, exploring the nearby caves or simply relaxing in a hammock and taking in the serene surroundings. Puerto Escondido is a beautiful coastal city located in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. While it is known for its incredible beaches, there is another stop every traveler should make during their visit: Mercado Benito Juárez. This market is a bustling hub of activity and commerce that offers visitors a glimpse into the local way of life. It is an ideal place to try Oaxacan cuisine, purchase handmade crafts, and immerse oneself in the vibrancy of Mexican culture.

The market is located in the heart of downtown Puerto Escondido. Its central location makes it easily accessible by foot or taxi, and it is open every day from 8am to 6pm. I recommend visiting early in the day to beat the crowds and heat. Upon arrival, one can immediately sense the energy of the market. The air is filled with the fragrant smells of local spices and freshly prepared food, and vendors call out for customers to come and sample their wares.

One of the highlights of Mercado Benito Juárez is the amazing array of food stalls offering traditional Oaxacan dishes. Some of my personal favorites include mole negro, a rich and flavorful sauce made with chilies, chocolate, and spices, and tlayudas, crispy tortillas topped with beans, cheese, and meat. The seafood at the market is also incredibly fresh and delicious. For a refreshing treat, I recommend trying a michelada, a spicy beer cocktail that is perfect for hot days.

As well as the food, the market is famous for its handmade goods. From beautiful textiles and pottery to intricate wooden carvings, there is something for every taste and budget. The vendors are friendly and welcoming, and I enjoyed chatting with them about their crafts and learning more about their lives in Puerto Escondido. One of the things I appreciated most about the market was the opportunity to support the local community by purchasing artisanal products directly from the makers themselves.

In addition to the crafts and food, Mercado Benito Juárez is also a great place to people-watch and soak up the ambiance of the market. I loved seeing families out shopping together, street performers entertaining crowds, and locals catching up with friends over coffee. The market truly feels like the heart of Puerto Escondido, and it is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in experiencing authentic Mexican culture.

To truly experience the market, I recommend allowing plenty of time to wander and explore. It is easy to get lost among the maze of stalls, but this is half the fun. I also suggest coming with an open mind and an appetite for adventure. The market can be overwhelming and chaotic, but it is a true reflection of the culture and lifestyle of Puerto Escondido. As one vendor told me, "The market is the beating heart of this city. Everything you need is here."

In conclusion, Mercado Benito Juárez is a vibrant and exciting destination for any traveler visiting Puerto Escondido. With delicious food, handmade crafts, and an incredible atmosphere, it truly encapsulates the spirit of Mexican culture. As the famous Oaxacan saying goes, "Para todo mal, mezcal, y para todo bien, también" ("For everything bad, mezcal, and for everything good, too"). So why not indulge in some mezcal and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of Mercado Benito Juárez?

Our first stop was at a local surf shop where we rented boards and wetsuits. The staff were all veteran surfers and gave us some tips on what to expect from the waves. We headed over to the beach, and it was stunning. The beach stretched on for miles and the waves were enormous - they made a deep booming sound when they hit the shore. It was both exhilarating and intimidating.

After a few practice runs, we tried our luck at surfing Punta Zicatela. We quickly learned that the waves were not for the faint-hearted, and it’s not recommended for beginners. The swells could be unpredictable, and the rip currents were strong. Even as a seasoned surfer, it was a challenging experience. However, the feeling of riding the waves, even for just a few seconds, was a thrill I’ll never forget.

If you want to take a break from surfing or plan to visit with friends and family who don’t surf, there are plenty of other activities to do nearby. There are a variety of restaurants and beach bars offering fresh seafood, cold beers, and a laidback atmosphere. The market in the center of the town is perfect for picking up souvenirs or trying out local foods.

If you’re planning a visit to Punta Zicatela, keep in mind that the best time to go surfing is between April and September when the swells are at their biggest. If you want to compete, there are several surfing competitions held annually, including the famous Mexi Log Festival.

Overall, Punta Zicatela is a must-visit destination for any die-hard surfer or traveler looking for a thrilling experience. The stunning beaches, excellent restaurants, and friendly locals make it an ideal spot for a vacation in the sun. I highly recommend planning a trip and exploring everything that Punta Zicatela and Puerto Escondido have to offer. As they say, “the best surfer is the one having the most fun.”
