One of the most popular attractions in Rabat is the Kasbah of the Udayas, an ancient fortress that sits on the banks of the Bou Regreg River.

The Kasbah of the Udayas was built in the 12th century by emir Abd al-Mu'min. It was designed as a fortified city to protect the inhabitants from invaders. The Kasbah was home to the Udayas tribe, who were expelled from Andalusia by the Spaniards in the 16th century.

Today, the Kasbah of the Udayas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit for anyone coming to Rabat. The fortified city is a maze of narrow streets, white and blue houses decorated with stunning mosaics, and small squares full of flowers and fountains.

The main entrance to the Kasbah is the Bab Oudaia gate, a beautiful blue and white archway that leads visitors into the heart of the fortress. Once inside, visitors can wander around the winding alleys and admire the traditional Moroccan architecture. The houses in the Kasbah are made of sand and stone, with wooden frames and blueish tiles on the roofs.

The Kasbah of the Udayas is also home to the Kasbah Museum, where visitors can learn about the history of Rabat and the Udayas tribe. The museum features artifacts from the 12th century as well as displays of traditional Moroccan crafts and arts.

Rabat, the capital city of Morocco, is known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning architecture, and bustling streets. One of the must-visit places in Rabat is the Hassan Tower, a towering minaret that serves as a quintessential symbol of the city's glorious past.

The Hassan Tower, or Tour Hassan in French, is located on the site of what was intended to be the world's largest mosque over 800 years ago. Sultan Yacoub al-Mansour, who ruled the Almohad dynasty, began its construction in 1195. However, the project was never completed due to the sultan's untimely death.

What remains today is the famous minaret, which dominates the skyline of Rabat. Standing at 44 meters high, the Hassan Tower once had a counterpart on the opposite side of the mosque. However, the second minaret was destroyed during an earthquake in the 18th century, leaving the Hassan Tower as the sole survivor.

The tower itself is a marvel of Islamic architecture, with intricate carvings and geometric patterns adorning the exterior. Visitors can climb the tower's winding staircase to the top for a breathtaking panoramic view of Rabat and the Atlantic Ocean.

Surrounding the tower is an expansive courtyard, which was once intended to be the prayer area of the mosque. Today, the courtyard is a popular gathering place for locals and tourists alike. Its lush gardens and peaceful atmosphere make it an ideal spot for picnics, taking a break from sightseeing, or just soaking in the beauty of the surroundings.

The Hassan Tower is not only a significant historical site but is also a testament to the incredible craftsmanship and creativity of the Moroccan people. It serves as a reminder of the once-great Almohad dynasty and the enduring legacy they left behind.

Visitors to Rabat must not miss the opportunity to visit the Hassan Tower and experience the city's rich cultural heritage firsthand. It is an excellent destination for history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone looking to take in the splendor of one of Morocco's most iconic landmarks.
