Yellowstone National Park is an iconic outdoor destination that attracts millions of visitors each year. Situated in the Northwestern region of Wyoming, the park covers an area of 2.2 million acres of forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, hot springs, geysers, and wildlife. The best way to explore Yellowstone is to drive through the park, stop at various places, and hike on trails. For those who are starting their journey from Red Lodge, MT, here are some tips to explore Yellowstone National Park.

Route from Red Lodge:

There are two ways to reach Yellowstone from Red Lodge. One route is via Beartooth Pass, a scenic byway that is open only from late May through October. The other route is via Cody, WY, which is a longer route but rarely closes even during winters. The distance between Red Lodge and Yellowstone's Northern Entrance (Gardiner) is approximately 90 miles via Beartooth and around 150 miles via Cody.

Where to Stay:

There are several lodging options available inside the park, such as cabins, lodges, campsites, and RV parks. However, during the peak season (June-August), reservations are necessary. For those who prefer to stay outside the park, there are many towns such as Gardiner, West Yellowstone, Cooke City, and Cody that offer lodging options.

What to See:

Yellowstone's must-see sights are its geysers and hot springs. The park has more than 10,000 hydrothermal features, including Old Faithful, which erupts every 90 minutes. Other geysers worth seeing are the Grand Prismatic Spring, Lower Geyser Basin, and Norris Geyser Basin. Yellowstone's wildlife is another attraction, where visitors can see bison, elk, deer, bears, wolves, bighorn sheep, and others. For those who enjoy hiking, there are more than 1,000 miles of trails in Yellowstone that offer a range of difficulty from easy walks to challenging hikes.

Tips for Visiting:

Yellowstone is a vast park, and it is not possible to see everything in one day. It is recommended to spend at least two to three days in the park to explore its major attractions. Make sure to bring warm clothes and rain gear, as weather conditions can change quickly in Yellowstone. Also, follow park rules and regulations to avoid any mishap.

Yellowstone National Park is a unique place that offers a surreal experience amidst nature's wonders. From Red Lodge, visitors can reach the park via Beartooth or Cody and explore its geysers, hot springs, wildlife, and trails. Plan your trip well in advance, make reservations, follow park rules, and make unforgettable memories.
