If you find yourself in Reno over Thanksgiving weekend, why not take a scenic drive through the Sierra Nevada mountains? The natural beauty of this region is truly breathtaking, and there are plenty of delightful spots to stop and explore along the way.

One of the most popular routes is the Mount Rose Highway, which offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. This winding road climbs up to over 8,000 feet, and there are numerous pullouts where you can park and take in the panoramic vistas. Keep an eye out for wildlife too – you might spot deer, elk, or even a black bear!

Another great option is to take the Tahoe Rim Trail, which circles the entirety of Lake Tahoe. This 165-mile route is ideal for hiking or mountain biking, and you'll encounter breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains at every turn. If you're feeling adventurous, you could even try rock climbing or fly fishing in one of the many streams.

For those who prefer a leisurely drive, consider taking a trip along the Eastern Sierra Scenic Byway. This 200-mile route meanders through quaint towns like Bridgeport and Lee Vining, as well as the stunning Mammoth Lakes area. Stop off for a soak in one of the natural hot springs or go stargazing in one of the many dark sky parks.

No matter which route you choose, be sure to pack plenty of snacks and water, as well as warm layers – the temperatures can drop rapidly as you climb higher. And of course, be respectful of the natural environment by leaving no trace and avoiding any sensitive areas.

With its stunning natural beauty and abundant outdoor recreation opportunities, a scenic drive through the Sierra Nevada mountains is the perfect way to spend a Reno Thanksgiving weekend. So pack up the car, hit the road, and get ready for a truly memorable adventure.

If you're looking for a fun and festive Thanksgiving weekend getaway, Reno is the place to be! Last year, my family and I visited the city and had a blast. We started our weekend by attending the annual Turkey Trot, which was a great way to burn off some calories before indulging in the Thanksgiving feast. We also visited the National Automobile Museum, which was a hit with both the kids and adults in our group. And of course, we couldn't miss the chance to do some gambling at the casinos! Reno truly offers something for everyone during Thanksgiving weekend.
