Fly Fishing in Blue River

Source: troutsflyfishing.com

Silverthorne, Colorado is a stunning mountain town that attracts visitors year-round. While it's well-known for its world-class skiing in the winter, the summer months offer a whole new set of adventures - one of which is fly fishing in the Blue River.

The Blue River flows through Summit County, including the town of Silverthorne, and is one of the best trout streams in Colorado. The river is so revered among anglers that it was designated as a Gold Medal Water by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife department, meaning it's a destination for anglers looking for the best fishing opportunities in the state.

So what makes the Blue River so special for fly fishing? First, it's home to a healthy population of brown and rainbow trout, making it a great spot for both new and experienced anglers. The river is also easily accessible with plenty of public access points as it runs right through Silverthorne itself.

The river's flow is primarily dictated by snowmelt, which means that it can be high and fast in the early summer before settling down to a more stable flow later in the season. As a result, the best time to fish in the Blue River is generally from mid-July through early October.

If you're planning a trip to fly fish in the Blue River, there are a few things you'll need to know. First, you'll need a valid Colorado fishing license. You can purchase one online or at a local sporting goods store. Next, you'll need to select the right gear. Fly fishing requires specific equipment, including a fly rod, reel, line, and various other accessories like flies, tippet, and leaders. If you're new to the sport, consider hiring a guide who can teach you the basics and take you to the best spots on the river.

Finally, it's important to know about the regulations and restrictions for fishing in the Blue River. Most of the river is catch and release only, meaning you must release all fish back into the water unharmed. Additionally, there are restrictions on the size and type of flies you can use, and some sections of the river have specific rules around when and how you can fish.

Despite a few regulations and restrictions, fly fishing in the Blue River is an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Silverthorne, you'll have the chance to catch trophy-sized trout while taking in the stunning mountain scenery. So if you're looking for an outdoor adventure in Silverthorne this summer, don't miss out on the opportunity to fly fish in the Blue River.
