American Airlines Travel Vouchers: Understanding The Fine Print

American Airlines offers eVouchers, which are easy to redeem on the AA.com website. eVouchers are provided for US customers only and are valid for one year from the date of issue. They can be used for payment towards air travel on flights operated by American Airlines, American Eagle, and oneworld carriers for itineraries originating in the US, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. They can also be used for payment on any oneworld partner or codeshare flights designated as AA*. eVouchers cannot be used for upgrades, memberships, or non-flight products and services. They are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-returnable and cannot be redeemed for cash. eVouchers are also void if bought, sold, bartered, advertised for sale, or used for commercial or promotional purposes.

How to redeem eVouchers

EVouchers are non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be redeemed for cash. They are only provided to US customers and are valid for 1 year from the date of issue.

• Check your email for your 19-digit Voucher and 4-digit PIN number. You can also check your eVoucher balance online.
• EVouchers can only be redeemed on aa.com or by contacting Reservations. They are not redeemable through any other channels, including airport ticket counters or travel agencies.
• EVouchers can be redeemed toward air travel on flights operated by American, American Eagle®, oneworld® partners, or on flights marketed by American (designated with an AA^*). They cannot be used for payment of air travel on any other airline.
• EVouchers can be redeemed toward the base airfare and directly associated taxes, fees, and charges collected as part of the fare calculation. They cannot be used for products and/or services sold separately from the fare price or for taxes, fees, or charges in connection with AAdvantage® award travel, American Airlines Vacations, or any other non-flight products and/or services sold by American.
• The eVoucher recipient can use it to pay for travel for themselves or others.
• You may redeem up to 8 eVouchers in a single transaction.
• If the ticket price is greater than the value of the eVoucher(s), you may only pay the difference with a credit, debit, or charge card with a billing address in the US, Puerto Rico, or US Virgin Islands.
• If the ticket price is less than the value of the eVoucher(s), the unused amount will remain on the eVoucher until it reaches zero, at which point the eVoucher will be deactivated.

eVoucher expiration and validity

EVouchers are valid for 1 year from the date of issue, and American Airlines will not reissue them past the expiration date. The airline is not responsible for honouring invalid or expired eVouchers.

If the credit card is used in conjunction with eVoucher(s), the credit card must have a United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, or Puerto Rico billing address. eVouchers may not be used for upgrades, Admirals Club memberships enrolments, Admirals Club One-Day passes, AAdvantage Award Travel, or other non-flight products and/or services sold on the American Airlines website. eVouchers cannot be reissued after the expiration date.

Exchanging a voucher for a new ticket

American Airlines offers vouchers for future bookings, which can be used for booking a new flight, purchasing goods or services, and more. These vouchers are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-returnable, and cannot be redeemed for cash. They are also void if bought, sold, bartered, or used for commercial or promotional purposes.

• Find your voucher number: Check your email for a 13-digit travel credit number that begins with '001' or a 19-digit voucher and 4-digit PIN number.
• Book your new flight: Go to aa.com and book your new flight.
• Select 'Trip Credit' on the payment screen: On the payment screen, select the 'Trip Credit' option. If you are using a paper voucher, you will need to call Reservations.
• Enter your voucher number: Follow the prompts to enter your 13-digit voucher number and complete the payment using your voucher.
• Pay any remaining balance: If the cost of your new flight exceeds the value of your voucher, you can pay the remaining balance with a credit card.

It is important to note that travel credits can only be used to book flights and cannot be used for extras like seats or bags. Additionally, vouchers must be used within one year of the original issue date, and ticketing or reissuance must be done before the expiration date.

eVoucher limitations

EVouchers are provided for US customers only. They are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-returnable. eVouchers cannot be redeemed for cash, check or credit, and they have no implied warranties. eVouchers are void if bought, sold, bartered, advertised for sale, or used for commercial or promotional purposes. eVouchers will not be replaced if lost or stolen. This includes inadvertent deletion, forwarding, or access of the email containing the eVoucher number. Therefore, it is important to guard the eVoucher number and PIN as you would cash.

American Airlines reserves the right to refuse, void, cancel, reject, or hold eVouchers for review if they are mistakenly issued in an incorrect denomination or obtained through fraudulent means. eVouchers are valid for one year from the date of issue, and they will not be reissued past the expiration date. American Airlines is not responsible for honouring invalid or expired eVouchers. eVouchers will not be accepted if they have an invalid number or cannot be located within the American Airlines systems.
