Source: The New Yorker

Brooklyn at night can be a mysterious and spooky experience, and one of the best ways to explore this side of the borough is to take a haunted tour of Green-Wood Cemetery. As one of the oldest and most historic cemeteries in the city, Green-Wood is home to over 570,000 graves, including those of many famous figures such as Leonard Bernstein, Boss Tweed, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. But at night, the cemetery takes on a very different feel as visitors explore its eerie and paranormal side.

The tours are led by experienced guides who take visitors on a journey through the darker side of the cemetery's history. They will share spine-chilling stories about the ghosts and other supernatural beings that are said to haunt the grounds. Some of the most famous ghosts include the Lady in Gray, who is rumored to have been haunting Green-Wood since the 19th century, and a mysterious figure known as the Bronze Lady.

Visitors can also see some of the cemetery's most impressive mausoleums and monuments, many of which date back to the Victorian era. In the darkness, their shadows can be especially imposing, making for a truly unforgettable experience.

If you're going on one of these tours, make sure to dress warmly and bring a flashlight. The cemetery can get chilly even in the summer, and you want to be able to see your way around in the dark. And of course, be prepared to be spooked!

While Green-Wood Cemetery is a popular destination for day-time visitors, the nighttime tours offer a unique and unforgettable experience. Be sure to check it out if you're looking for something off the beaten path in Brooklyn at night.

Source: PUNCH

Brooklyn is known for its bustling nightlife scene, packed with an array of trendy bars and swanky lounges. However, if you're looking for a truly immersive experience, step back in time and visit The Back Room.

Located in the Lower East Side, The Back Room is a true speakeasy, complete with dim lighting, antique decor, and a secret entrance. The entrance is disguised as a Lower East Side vintage clothing store, giving visitors the full prohibition-era experience. Once inside, you'll feel like you've entered a different world.

The Back Room's cocktail list is impressive, with a range of prohibition-era and speakeasy-style drinks on offer. Classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned, Negroni and Sazerac are all expertly prepared and served in vintage glassware. However, it's the signature cocktails that steal the show. The Back Room's menu is constantly changing, but some of the standout cocktails include the 'Dark & Stormy Night,' made with Pusser's Rum, ginger beer, and lime juice, and the 'Corpse Reviver #2,' made with gin, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc, and lemon juice.

Despite the prohibition-era theme, The Back Room does offer a modern take on things, offering snacks and small plates to accompany their exquisite cocktails. The food menu is small but perfectly formed, with highlights including the smoked salmon plate, cheese board, and charcuterie plate.

The Back Room is not just a bar, but an experience. With its intimate atmosphere, top-notch cocktails, and timeless decor, it's a must-visit destination. Be sure to make a reservation in advance, as it's a popular spot, particularly on the weekends.
